It's time to make your wishes known and keep track of what you will be getting for others. That’s what this website is all about. giftlist.christmas has returned for the holiday season, simpler to use than ever before. The site has been completely revamped and no longer relies on Google Docs. This guide will help you get started with the new gift list system.
First you will need to register an account and log in with google. This website exists only for people in the family and is invite only. Once you're logged in, the Gift List section will be open to you. The first page of that section will list all of the registered users' gift lists. Yours will always show up at the top. Click to open and start editing.
You can choose to add gifts to your list or comments. Comments are helpful when you want to get specific about what you want. "Get item A OR item B", for example. When adding a gift, you must set the name of the item and the quantity, how many of the item that you want. Optional details include a link url to the product page, an image url so everyone can see what the item looks like, and a description of the item or your specifications that will hopefully be filled with as many details as possible.
After you've added gifts and comments to your list you can rearrange them as you please. You can delete comments freely and instantly, but since gift items can be interacted with by others, they won't be deleted immediately. To retain secrecy, all gift items set to be removed from your list will be put into hidden mode. Hidden items will be hidden from anyone yet to make a claim on them and deleted after a secret period of time. Before deletion, you can choose to restore them at any time by checking the removed gifts section at the bottom of your list.
When you visit someone else's gift list you can interact with the gifts they have added by making a claim. Claims are how you declare that you will be getting a certain gift for that person. Claims will be visible to everyone except for the one who the gift list belongs to. It will remain a secret to them as long as no one spills the beans. You can also choose to make a claim publicly or anonymously. The claim itself will always remain visible, but your name can be hidden.
Every gift has a desired quantity set by the list editor. If they desire more than one of the gift item, multiple claims can be made on it. Once the amount of claims meets the preset quantity, no further claims can be made. You can revoke your claims at any time, opening up space for new claims on that item. In the near future, a new section will be added to this website. "My Claims". It will allow you to view and manage all of your claims across every gift list on the site.
